About Boy Blue

Boy Blue is the sonic alter ego of Baxter Houghton, a singer, guitarist, and producer from Tacoma, Washington—a small city with a growing creative heartbeat. Fusing the grit of alternative rock with the grooves of funk and the introspection of indie, Boy Blue’s sound is genre-bending and emotionally raw. With roots in blues, growing up listening to legends like Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck,  and Ray Charles, and a love for rock and grunge icons like The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and The Strokes, his music pulses with both soul and edge. Add in the modern textures of The Talking Heads, Steve Lacy and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and you get a sound that’s as nostalgic as it is next-gen. 

Boy Blue’s songs can hurt, heal, hype you up, or hold you in place. One track might ache with longing, another might make you dance like nobody’s watching, and the next might remind you you're unstoppable. For Baxter, music isn’t just art—it’s a spiritual practice, a form of truth-telling and a way to connect with the deeper parts of himself and others.

His musical journey started at the Tacoma School of the Arts, where he fronted the bands Blue Daze and Ivy, playing local venues and shaping his identity as an artist. Now a student at Berklee College of Music, Boy Blue has already released two defining singles: “Good Act”, a raw introduction to his alternative guitar-driven production style, and “Sick Sedation”, a breakout moment where his songwriting and emotional depth took center stage. 

With performances at venues like McMenamins Elks Temple, Real Art Tacoma, Exit Galleries Boston, and Odessa Boston, Boy Blue continues to carve a space where listeners can feel deeply, move freely, and exist without judgment. His music is laid-back yet magnetic—equal parts heartache, charm, and catharsis.

Boy Blue is currently finishing his debut album which is set to release in spring 2026 and will be touring Boston and the East Coast from fall 2025 through summer 2026.
